Samagri note: Your pandit shares a personalised samagri list at least three days before the ceremony. Most items are available at any puja store; on request, the pandit can bring the havan kund and special items for an additional, pre-agreed cost.

Vivah Sanskar — Step by Step

An outline of how the ceremony is conducted. Your pandit may adapt the order to your family tradition and regional practice.

  1. Arrival, setup & sankalp

    The pandit arrives about 30 minutes early, sets up the chowki facing east and takes the sankalp in the name and gotra of the yajman family, stating the purpose of the Vivah Sanskar.

  2. Pre-wedding muhurat consultation

    Before the day, the pandit studies the panchang and your family details to fix an auspicious date and time, and confirms the names, gotra and purpose for the sankalp.

  3. Ganesh & Gauri puja

    Lord Ganesha is invoked first so that the ceremony proceeds without obstacles, with offerings of durva, flowers, akshat and sweets.

  4. Kanyadaan & panigrahan

    Offerings for the ancestors and charity are made as prescribed, with guidance on the daan appropriate for your sankalp.

  5. Saptapadi & pheras

    Performed with the prescribed mantras and upacharas, with the pandit guiding the family through each action.

  6. Sindoor daan & ashirvad

    Offerings for the ancestors and charity are made as prescribed, with guidance on the daan appropriate for your sankalp.

  7. Kshama prarthana & ashirvad

    The ceremony closes with a prayer seeking forgiveness for any unintentional error, followed by blessings for the family and guidance on what to do after the puja.

Tip: keep a clean chowki, a mat for the family to sit on and a steady water supply ready before the pandit arrives.

The ceremony usually takes 4 – 6 hrs. The exact time depends on your family tradition, the number of participants and any additional rituals you request. We share a timeline when confirming the booking.

This ceremony is performed in person, as the rituals require the pandit's presence at the venue. Contact us if you are outside our service areas.

It covers the pandit's dakshina for the standard vidhi: Pre-wedding muhurat consultation, Ganesh & Gauri puja, Kanyadaan & panigrahan, Saptapadi & pheras, Sindoor daan & ashirvad. Samagri, travel outside city limits and additional pandits are quoted separately before you confirm.

Families usually arrange the samagri using the list the pandit shares before the ceremony. If you prefer, the pandit can bring the complete samagri kit for a pre-agreed amount.

Your pandit consults the panchang along with the birth details of the family head (or the individual concerned) to recommend auspicious dates and timings.
