Vishwakarma Puja — Step by Step

An outline of how the ceremony is conducted. Your pandit may adapt the order to your family tradition and regional practice.

  1. Arrival, setup & sankalp

The pandit arrives about 30 minutes early, sets up the chowki facing east and takes the sankalp in the name and gotra of the yajman family, stating the purpose of the Vishwakarma Puja.

  2. Vishwakarma sthapana

Sacred vessels and seats for the devtas are established on the chowki, inviting the deities who witness and bless the ritual.

  3. Puja of machines & tools

Performed with the prescribed mantras and upacharas, with the pandit guiding the family through each action.

  4. Havan

Agni is consecrated in the havan kund and the family offers ghee and samagri with every mantra ending in “swaha”, concluding with the purnahuti.

  5. Aarti

Aarti is performed with lamps and camphor, bhog is offered to the deity, and prasad is shared with family and guests.

  6. Prasad

Aarti is performed with lamps and camphor, bhog is offered to the deity, and prasad is shared with family and guests.

  7. Kshama prarthana & ashirvad

The ceremony closes with a prayer seeking forgiveness for any unintentional error, followed by blessings for the family and guidance on what to do after the puja.
