Vansh Vriddhi (Santan Gopal) Puja — Step by Step

An outline of how the ceremony is conducted. Your pandit may adapt the order to your family tradition and regional practice.

  1. Arrival, setup & sankalp

The pandit arrives about 30 minutes early, sets up the chowki facing east and takes the sankalp in the name and gotra of the yajman family, stating the purpose of the Vansh Vriddhi (Santan Gopal) Puja.

  2. Kundli check

Before the day, the pandit studies the panchang and your family details to fix an auspicious date and time, and confirms the names, gotra and purpose for the sankalp.

  3. Bal Gopal puja

Performed with the prescribed mantras and upacharas, with the pandit guiding the family through each action.

  4. Santan Gopal mantra jaap

The pandit recites the prescribed texts with correct swara and pauses to explain their meaning so the whole family can follow along.

  5. Harivansh path

The pandit recites the prescribed texts with correct swara and pauses to explain their meaning so the whole family can follow along.

  6. Havan

Agni is consecrated in the havan kund and the family offers ghee and samagri with every mantra ending in “swaha”, concluding with the purnahuti.

  7. Kshama prarthana & ashirvad

The ceremony closes with a prayer seeking forgiveness for any unintentional error, followed by blessings for the family and guidance on what to do after the puja.
